I understand that's it's human nature to want to know every aspect of celebrities lives, but is it really worth all the trouble? We have seen what the desire to know more about celebrities has done, remember Princess Diana. Now the same need to know everything about a people has turned on this family and split them apart.
The premiere for the new season of Jon and Kate Plus 8 brought in 9.8 million viewers, and regrettably I was one of them. The season opener featured as I wrote in a previous post the sextuplets 5th birthday along with interviews from Jon and Kate about their recent media coverage. Both Gosselin parents appeared in separate interviews during the show, with the exception of when they were asked about their future. Throughout the hour long special it was apparent that the couple is having problems; especially when their child Alexis asked Jon to come home during her birthday party.
One thing that I noticed about the children's party was that their close family and friend that appeared with the family regularly were not there. Beth Carson, a friend that they met when the sextuplets were born, was M.I.A. during the party. She has appeared in many of the families episodes along with her family who plays and takes care of the kids.
Also missing from the party was Kate's brother Kevin Kreider and his wife Jodie. They have also appeared on the show several times along with their children, and where M.I.A. in the opener. They appeared on CBS The Early Show today to speak out about how their nieces and nephews are being "exploited." In the interview they stated that they now have an estranged relationship with the Gosselin family and haven't seen their nieces and nephews in a long time. They also said that the children don't like having the camera around all the time.
"They don't want the cameras around. They have told me personally. ... We watched them quite a bit about a year ago and further back. They would say, 'Aunt Jodi, I don't like the cameras on every vacation with us. I don't like them --" said Jodi Kreider.
Her husband followed with saying, "We're speaking out now because we want to be the voice of our nieces and nephews. We're seeing it turn-tide, that they're being viewed as a commodity."
As millions of views continue to watch the show, I am throwing in the flag. I will not be a part of the destruction of this family. I'm quitting Jon and Kate Plus 8 cold turkey. So this is my final blog on the Gosselin family, I wish them the best and I hope that the media and their fans don't tear their family apart.
