
Michael Jackson died at the age of 50 at UCLA Medical Center. He was pronounced dead at 2:26 pm, this is two hours after the 911 call was made. The cause of his death was due to a massive heart attack that he suffered in his Holmby Hills home. His personal physician, who was in his home, tried to resuscitate him but was unsuccessful. Jackson's body is currently going through an autopsy; the results are suppose to come out later today.
As coroners work to find out what caused the death of Jackson, there are speculations that it could have been caused by the pain killers he was taking. Jackson was taking the pain killers due to a leg and vertebrae injury in his back that he suffered when he fell off a stage during a performance. The former attorney and a close family friend of Jackson, Brian Oxman, said yesterday that he was concerned of the artist use of the medication.
Oxman today NBC's Today Show, "I said one day, we're going to have this experience. And when Anna Nicole Smith passed away, I said we cannot have this kind of thing with Michael Jackson. The result was, I warned everyone, and lo and behold, here we are. I don't know what caused his death. But I feared this day, and here we are."
Michael Jackson's life story is something that is familiar to fans all over the world. He grew up in Gary, Indiana as the seventh of nine children of Joseph and Katherine Jackson. He along with his older brothers' former the musical group known as the Jackson 5. When Jackson was 10 the group, Jackson 5, was signed to Motown Records. The group's hit songs consist of "ABC", "I'll Be There", and "I Want You Back."
Jackson had released four albums during his childhood and adolescent years. He released his fifth album Off the Wall in 1979, which featured the song "Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough." This was followed by Jackson's album Thriller, which sold over 50 million copies worldwide and is the best-selling album in history. The album included hits like the critically acclaimed "Thriller", "Billy Jean", and "Beat It." In 1987 Jackson released the album Bad which included hit songs "Bad," "Man in the Mirror," "Dirty Diana," and "Smooth Criminal." Jackson's discography also includes albums Dangerous in 1991, HIStory in 1995, and his last album Invisible in 2001.
Jackson was induced into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, the first time in 1997 and second time in 2001. During his lifetime he won 56 Recording Industry Association of America Awards, 40 Billboard Awards, 22 American Music Awards, 19 Grammy Awards, and 13 Guinness Book of World Records along with many other awards. He also won an African Ambassador's Spouses Association Award in 2004. Aside from his music history Jackson leaves behind three child, two sons and a daughter which range in ages 14 to 7.
The family of Jackson is currently in Encino, California at the mansion that is said to be owned by Jermaine Jackson and Katherine Jackson. It is unknown if Jackson's older sister La Toya is at the house, and his younger sister Janet Jackson is in route to the mansion. According to E! Rev. Jesse Jackson, who is a long family friend of the Jackson's, has been with the family during this time. He addressed the media today to speak on behalf of the family.
"Michael deserves his rest and has earned his rest" said Rev. Jesse Jackson. He continued by saying, "For those who have criticized Michael, we say beat it."
Rev. Jesse Jackson also said that Michael was in good physical and mental shape and was excited about his 50 show tour coming up in London. He also noted that this was a shock to everyone. Rev. Jackson also spoke about being with the family and stated that they were playing Jackson's songs in the household.
Many celebrities around the world are morning the death of Jackson. Throughout the day yesterday and today people have been releasing statements about his death and sending condolences to the Jackson family.
"My heart…my mind…are broken," said Jackson's long-time friend Elizabeth Taylor, I still can't believe it. I don't want to believe it. It can't be so. He will live in my heart forever but it's not enough. My life feels so empty."
"I feel privileged to have hung out and worked with Michael," wrote Paul McCartney on his website, "He was a massively talented boy man with a gentle soul. His music will be remembered forever and my memories of our time together will be happy ones."

Michael Jackson, despite the tribulations of his life, made a great impact on the world through his music and humanitarianism. His life and work has touched us all in one way or another, and we have reaped the benefits from it. Without his contribution we would not have the dance moves, trends, music, music videos, or MTV.
