New Year= New Sunset

I just wanted to stop for a minute and thank everyone who has took time out of there day to read my blog. It means so much to me that you guys have supported me this year and helped me in expressing myself creatively.

As the new year approaches I'm working on ways to make Sunset Hills big and better than it was in 2009. Look to see what changes I have in store for you guys. Also I want you guys to email or write me your ideas and thoughts. I have gotten some emails already, (thanks to those who have already sent some in) and I enjoy reading what you have to say.

Thanks again for everything and making Sunset Hill what it is. Have a happy new year and here's to 2010.

The E! Babies

Seems as though the theme on E! right now is for someone on their reality shows to get knocked up and then film all the drama that happens until the big day comes. Early this year one of the former Heffner girlfriend go from single to wifey. On the opposite side of the world, two sisters ventured out to expand their company and find out what life is like in Florida.

With both of these reality stars going through their pregnancies E! has seemed to go into pregger mode to capitalize on them. They have the commercials, the count downs, the baby showers, and the guess how much the babies will weigh; what is a viewer to do? It seems as though we only have two options either get on board or block the channel all together.

For those of us that have chosen to stick it out get ready for the Kendra special that will be airing during mid December featuring the birth of her son. For Kardashian fans there is no word on if they will be showing her birth, but the baby shower will be aired some during the 'Keeping Up With the Kardashian' series.

Remembering Our Girlfriends

They were the African American version of 'Sex and the City'; with the same amount of class and their own flare the women of Girlfriends put the issues of minor women out there. As I watched the show I started to realize that it never had an ending. During the last writers strikes a couple of years ago some stations decided to just cancel shows, and my beloved 'Girlfriends' was one of them. How I miss Joan, Toni, Mya, Lynn, and even William.

So why am I writing about a show that has been canceled for a while now? I really can't explain my reasoning for it except for the fact that I think the show ended poorly. Maybe it's my beef with The CW, but that show deserved an ending that explained how everything ended. What happened with William, Monica, and their baby? What's next for Mya and Darnell? What's happened to Lynn's music career? Does Aaron come back from Iraq and the biggest question, does Joan finally get a man?

Unfortunately we will never know, the answers are lost. I just want to say thank you to Kelsey Grammar and Mara Brock Akil for bringing us the women that essentially became our girlfriends.

Beef: BET

I remember when BET was the channel to watch, when '106 and Park' was the afternoon show, and 'Comic View' was extremely funny. I was a fan of BET, but now with their stupid reality shows and loss of purpose there is no point in watching it. Now the channel that was meant to bring people together and honor a minority has turned into a station that brings out the worst of the worse. So here it is my rant against BET and what they have become.

One thing that gets me is that '106 and Park' is becoming another 'TRL.' Why are they shortening the videos? That's the whole point of the show- to watch the videos, not Free Style Fridays, or the dance teams, or even the other activity of the day that they come up with. The show was to promote music that would not get the time that other genres would. So why are they going in another direction?

Another part that bothers me is all the reality shows they are showing. It's like have either eating off someones ideas or giving shows to wanna be stars. I can watch 'Frankie & Neffe', 'Harlem Heights', 'Baldwin Hills', or 'College Hill'. They are all demeaning and senseless shows.

Where is BET going with their programs? I have no idea, but I'm not watching it anymore. If they don't see a reason to put on shows that matter I don't see a reason in watching it.

Keyshia's Having a Baby

The news is out about R&B singer/ reality star Keyshia Cole. Reports having been circulating about Cole being pregnant with her basketball boyfriend Daniel Gibson, and it looks like the rumors about true. A video posted on a blog through BET showed Cole and Gibson participating in a charity event with a pregnant belly.

It has been reported that Cole is to give birth next year in March. The sex of the baby is unknown to the public right now; especially since neither Cole or Gibson have not officially confirmed that she is pregnant. Also there are no reports that Gibson and Cole are going to be getting married at this time.

Congratulations to both Cole and Gibson. If you want to see the video of Gibson and Cole at the charity event visit http://ow.ly/166f71.

Keyes for Charity

In support of World AIDS Day and her charity Keep a Child Alive, singer Alicia Keyes performed to raise money in Manhattan on Tuesday. The concert was said to be an experience as Keyes performed new songs along with some of her singles from past albums. Rapper Jay-Z also joined Keyes onstage performing their song "Empire State of Mind (Part II)" as the finale of the show.

The concert was somewhat of a prelude to Keyes upcoming album "The Element of Freedom" which is due to be released December 15. Many of the songs that she performed were about overcoming situations dealing with relationships and breakups. It has been reported that Keyes performed a majority of the songs on her upcoming album.

Keyes Keep a Child Alive organization works to help children along with families who are dealing with HIV/AIDS get the treatment and help they need. Keep a Child Alive mostly deals with those who are affected in Africa and India. To learn more visit www.keepachildalive.org

Ugly things for Betty

Things are getting nasty for ABC's 'Ugly Betty' on Friday. Seems as though the ratings for the acclaimed show are down right now at its current time slot; which I think was a no brainier. The show airs on Friday nights along with 'Super Nanny' and '20/20'. Did ABC really think that arrangement was going to work?

The channel is going to be moving the show starting in January to Wednesday nights. It will air alongside their Comedy Wednesday shows 'Cougar Town' starring Courtney Cox and 'Modern Family'. Meaning that it will be taking the place of the show 'Eastwick', which has been canceled.
